Best ever poolside pagode at Hilton in Algiers
The LSS had the sublime pleasure of bringing samba to Algiers. Apart from enjoying our main task, a 90 minutes show at the Theatre de Verdure, we had fantastic fun by the pool of our hotel.

Such beautiful songs...
Such beautiful songs.... And a whole song book full of it. Now we want to learn them! Towards this a few operational suggestions:
  • 1. Focus on anything you find in the book. (If you don't have one, you can download it now (pdf).
  • 2. Fall in love with a few songs (and take them to bed too)!!!
  • 3. No enredos for now (energy, speed, volume levels usually exhilarate when we do them)
  • 4. Let's interpret the songs musically, ...i.e. to structure them with breaks, chorus and all (including the girly bits like ...lajalalaja...)
  • 5.Take plenty of time... patience... and a few drinks mixed with a droplet of discipline.
  • 6. (If you are a samba lover) ...join in!

Strawberry Jam and the Queen
Some pictures from our post-AGM jam. Fruity and sweet. Everyone was happy, even The Duke!

Rocking like seaweed in the ocean
A good pagode is subtle and domestic; it's a private affair somehow, with singers and each instrument beautifully in balance and equal in principle. Swing, expression, subtlety, melody should come top.

Playing indoors, especially in small places, requires us to be able to adjust to the environment.

For what it's worth.. Click here for some rules of thumb!

MAKE A SONG YOUR OWN!
If you get hooked on a particular song, why not make it your own - learn it, sing it!
We'll be proud of you... and we wont laugh!
We might cry... but because it was so beautiful... !
