Costume making

No samba school would be complete without the vibrant colours, feathers and sequins adorning its participants. Hand in hand with the rhythm of samba and its footwork are the costumes of the LSS. There's a lot of fun to be had by getting involved in costume making. Everyone is welcome to come along and have a go. No experience necessary!

General costume workshops

Although the main focus of costume production is Notting Hill Carnival, the fun doesn't stop there! We also need to maintain our large stock of costumes used in performances throughout the year. As well as repairing costumes and replacing missing sequins and feathers, there are also opportunities to build on existing costumes or even produce new ones using left-over materials.

Evening workshops take place regularly at our workshop in Bermondsey.

If you would like to get involved, please contact Mathilde at wardrobelss@hotmail.co.uk

Carnival production workshops

Each year, a new set of costumes is especially designed for the Notting Hill Carnival. Preparations begin each spring and gather pace over the summer in the build up to the carnival at the end of August.

Costume production is a highly collaborative process and a great opportunity to gain a unique insight into the process from page to parade! From sewing and surface decoration to foam cutting and wire frame constructing, the workshops are open to anyone interested in adding a bit of colour to their lives! There's lots of fun to be had for all! No previous experience is necessary but all related skills are very welcome. It's a great way to meet new people and develop new skills

Internships are also available to those able to commit more time to gaining valuable experience in costume production, especially design students on related courses such as fashion and theatre production or design. For details on how to apply, please contact wardrobelss@hotmail.co.uk.
