London School of Samba came in with a bang at the All Points East Festival at Mile End Park on the August bank holiday, reuniting with headliners Bombay Bicycle Club. By special invitation, the LSS bateria stormed the stage to play their thrilling brand of Brazilian samba on the band’s final number – a climactic performance of their hit ‘Always Like This’. The crowd went wild, dancing to the samba infused beats.
Bombay Bicycle Club Always Like This Rocked the Main Stage!
“I couldn’t have been happier, the work the band put in at rehearsal was phenomenal”, said London School of Samba bateria director Mestre Fred Turuka. “Everyone knuckled down, we sang it at the tube station and played it together for the first time in front of the band. Frontman Jack Steadman remarked ‘you’ve never played this together before?’. And we hadn’t. Incredible!.”
London School of Samba + Bombay Bicycle Club Played Four Times
Bombay Bicycle Club originally spotted the LSS in 2009 at the Thames Festival, parading with Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, and invited the school to collaborate on a reworking of ‘Always Like This’, their hit that first blew up at the Glastonbury 2010 festival. Then the Bombay Bicycle Club invited the London School of Samba to some of their fantastic gigs. LSS and BBC joined forces at Koko in Camden in 2010, Glastonbury 2010, Underage Festival 2011 and now the All Points East festival 2021.
The London School of Samba is available to book for festivals and events all over the UK, Europe and beyond. For now, here are some Youtube videos of the collaborations between the London School of Samba + Bombay Bicycle Club over the years.
